New Look in the Square

Blind Eye Restoration, LLC was in charge of restoring arched windows that are located in downtown Urbana in the square. They completed the long awaited project on November 26th and the results are amazing!

These particular arched openings haven’t even been visible for around 30+ years! When Blind Eye Restoration began, there were aluminum louvre windows in all the 4th floor window openings. The owners were surprised to find out that the original jambs we’re still in place behind them. This view of the building hasn’t been seen in decades, if not longer.

"It was also nice to see our storefront repairs finish painted. Very proud of that arched sheet metal corner." says Blind Eye Restoration.

Ohio Smashes Record For New Business Creation

At the direction of Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, a review of the most recent new business filings indicates that with more than five weeks left in 2021, Ohio has already broken the state record for new business filings. As of close of business on November 21st, 181,586 new businesses have been created in the state of Ohio in 2021, breaking the record of 171,073 new businesses set throughout all of 2020.

“Entrepreneurs deserve all the credit – plain and simple. They’re the ones putting in the long hours, building their product, providing the services, and most importantly – taking the big chances,” said LaRose. “With great resolve, Ohioans have stood in the face of unpredictable headwinds and sent a loud and clear message to the nation – I want to do business in Ohio.”

Those looking to start a new business should take advantage of quick-and-easy online filing through Ohio Business Central by visiting OhioBusinessCentral.gov. You can also contact the CEP by visiting cepohio.com or calling (937)653-7200. Champaign County is OPEN for business!

Third Annual Champaign County Design Challenge

The Champaign Economic Partnership (CEP) was thrilled to hold the 3rd Annual Champaign County Design Challenge. This partnership between education and manufacturing presents students the chance to explore careers in manufacturing. Hands on experience and industry mentors offer Champaign County students to see what our community has to offer.

Students from Graham, Mechanicsburg, Triad, Urbana, and West-Liberty Salem all participated in this year’s challenge. The student teams were asked to create a spaghetti bridge with specific criteria and constraints. They were given spaghetti and marshmallows and had the option to use additional items commonly found in the classroom.

The teams competed at their school district and the winning team from each school district advanced to the county level competition held at the Champaign Community Center. This year’s school winner was Urbana High School.

Veterans Day Dinner and Dance

The Champaign County Arts Council with the support of the Champaign County Memorial Foundation present a Veterans Day Dinner and Dance!

The Veterans Day Dinner and Dance is an annual event which celebrates veterans and the musical performers who entertained them.

The 2021 event will take place on Saturday, November 13th at the VFW Hall (220 East Court Street, Urbana, OH 43078). Doors open at 5:30 PM and dinner begins at 6 PM. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here or by calling CCAC at (937) 653-7557.
